ELECT PM AND CMs ALSO BY SECRET VOTE











Voting results of Vice Presidential elections reveal cross-voting against opposition-candidates, a phenomenon witnessed earlier also when Bhaironsingh Shekhawat became Vice President establishing the fact that parliamentarians also differ from party-lines in case of secret voting. Real verdict of parliamentarians should also be known by electing Prime Minister, Lok Sabha Speaker and Deputy Chairpersons of two Houses by secret voting. Multi-cornered elections (also for Vice President) can be avoided by making nominations signed by at least one-third voters ensuring straight fight in all these elections. Voting should be compulsory to avoid deliberate absenteeism which may cause instability of government in case Prime Minister is also elected by secret vote. Same procedure should be adopted for no-confidence motion but with compulsion to name alternate leader in the same motion. Same procedure should be adopted in states also.











It is unfortunate that invalid votes are found in elections to posts of President and Vice President where only elected representatives cast votes. These elections should also be through Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
